Anne Marie Kanstrup Associate Professor at Dept. of Communications, Aalborg University, Kroghstraede 1, 9220 Aalborg, Denmark. kanstrup at hum.aau.dk

Interests I do research in design of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). My perspective is Human Centered which means that the primary purpose is to design technology with and for people in their everyday living at work, at home, in the city etc. The purpose is to develop theories and methods for design of ICT from a Human Centered perspective. This research area includes Participatory Design (PD), Interaction Design/Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). I work within the domains of health informatics, green technology, e-Government and e-learning.

Groups and Associations I am affiliated to eLL: Center for User-driven Innovation, Learning and Design at Department of Communications at Aalborg University [1]. I am a board member at SIGCHI.dk [2] and NiBF [3]. Several of my research projects are related to V-CHI: Virtual Centre of Health Informatics at Aalborg University [4] and Aalborg Universitys cross-disciplinary centre for e-Government [5]. From 2006-2007 I was Research co-ordinator at the centre for e-government. From 2002-2004 I was a member of Learning Lab Denmark's research consortium on Workplace Learning [6]. and from 2001-2004 I was part of Aalborg Universitys Participatory Research group on the Digital North Denmark [7]

Current Research Projects

The maXi-project (2007-2010) [9] maXi works with design of information services supporting diabetics’ self-regulation in their everyday life. The overall research aim is to get knowledge on barriers and possibilities of delivering digital health services. The project works i) with developing end testing digital community services for diabetics in a 'living lab' in Skagen in Denmark and ii) to understand community related barriers important to diabetics self-regulation and quality of life and the possibilities and problems related to the e-support of such barriers. The project is organized as a co-operation between researchers from Aalborg University (from the Department of Communication, the Department of Development and Planning and the Department of Health Science and Technology), diabetics and their families (12 families participating actively in the development and test of digital services), physicians, patient organizations, medico industry and software enterprises. The Project is sponsored by the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority [10]. Marie Glasemann [11] is PhD student in the maXi-project.

PSIP: Patient safety through intelligent procedures in medication (2008-2010) [12]. We (AAU/Christian Nøhr and I) are responsible for Workpackages on PSIP design based on user participation and usability evaluation.

eGov+: Exploring Design and Use of Transparent and Tailorable IT i Local Government (2008-2010) The eGov+ project 2008-2010 funded by a grant from the Danish national research council and headed by Professor Susanne Bødker from Aarhus University. Ell-researchers Ellen Christiansen, Tom Nyvang og Anne Marie Kanstrup participate with a special focus on communication. The goal is to bring Danish municipal government to the forefront as regards efficient, and democratic e-services. eGov+ will utilize and further develop Web 2.0 technology at the interface between citizens and public administration, and explore visualization of decision processes and workflows. [[13]]. Kristina Margrethe Rasmussen [14] is PhD student in the eGov+ project.

The TAX-project Design of e-support for user-driven innovation in the organization of Tax Denmark (~IRS). Funded by Tax Denmark and The Danish Ministry of Science and Technology. Camilla Pedersen [15] is PhD-student in the TAX-project.

FEEDBACK: feedback motivated electricity consumption in private households (2006-2008) [16] The FEEDBACK-project is concerned with design and evaluation of online consumption feedback, which motivates households to save electricity. The project consists of three related sub-projects, and Ell-researchers Anne Marie Kanstrup & Ellen Christiansen are responsible for the design of prototypes of on-line information on energy consumption based on user-driven innovation with 8 families. The developed prototypes will be installed and the effect on energy conservation will be tested in 120 Danish households in 2006-2008. The FEEDBACKproject is funded by Danish Energy Net [17], from where Ell-researchers Anne Marie Kanstrup and Ellen Christiansen have also received an additional grant for a qualitative follow up-study in 2008 on the households in Southern Denmark, who received e-mail and SMS-feedback.

The Mobile Design Laboratory The Mobile Design Lab comprises design competences, -materials, -tools, -techniques, and -processes for design of Information and Communication Technology in and with the field. [[18]]

The MINI-project: Mobile Learning for Junior Registrar Doctors (2006-2007) MINI is short for Mobile INteractIon and the project aims at experimenting with and designing e-learning solutions for handheld computers to be used by junior doctors in education for medical speciality. The project is cooperation between Aalborg University and Randers Central Hospital and a reference group of private companies specialized in e-learning (Edvantage Group [19]), health informatics (Acure, an IBM company [20]) and mobile devices (TopNordic [21] and Motorola [22]) The project is sponsored by The Danish Ministry of Science and Technology [23] grants for mobile e-learning.

Centre for eGovernment at Aalborg University (2006-2007) Research co-ordinator in Aalborg University’s centre for e-government [24]. Personal research focus: design and use of e-services. Participation in the EU-DEMO-NET: Democracy Network [25].

Local Design (2001-2005) PhD on local IT-support reported in the thesis “Local Design: An inquiry into work practices of local IT-supporters”. The project was part of and sponsored by The Participatory Research of the Digital North Denmark [26]

Workplace Learning (2002-2004) Member of the research consortium Workplace Learning at Learning Lab Denmark, managed by Professor Knud Illeris [27] . Contributing with research on IT-development and use in relation to learning at work. Editor of the book “E-læring på arbejde” (/e-learning at work).
